Changes to my study programme

Hi everyone this is my fifth blog. Today I´m going to talk about a the changes to my study programme of my career. First of all at the moment I´m stuying dentistry at “Universidad de Chile” so I´m going to talk about this career in this university. So the curriculum I feel that it´s good but I belive that some subjects aren´t necessary or are poorly focused. For example in the first year I had a subject called “Physics for Clinical Practice II”, in this subject the teachers taught us how the teeths moves and I think that learn this for a general dentist is not fundamental, for a orthodontist of course (orthodontics is a specialty in dentistry).

Talking about another thing of this career the workload it´s heavy I think, because you need to study continuously a lot of subjects like anatomy, histology, physiology for example and you can have tests of all this in one week. This is so hard and stressful but if you organize your time it´s not so stressful. And the length of studies I think that it´s okay because in the future I would work with real people that feels, have problems, ect and 6 years of preparation is a good time.

Changing the topic the faculty facilities are good but can be better, for example the simulation elements of the preclinic lab, like simulated mouths or patients bodies are a bit old but fulfill their function. And talking about the use of technology we have the necessary.

And finally the teaching methods  I can say that we have two in general, the theory and the practice. The theory it´s good but depends of the teacher, some are very good with yours explications and some are boring in their classes. And the practice is the best way to learn in my case because I can relate the theory with the practice, is more easy for me.

So this was my fifth blog I hope you like it and see you in the next oportunity. Bye.

  1. I totally agree with you, Vicente, regarding the academic workload. It's incredible how much one has to study to perform well in the assessments in just one week. I suppose that's how the University of Chile tries to maintain its excellence :(.

  2. Hi Hipp, I didn't like physics for clinical practice too, just because I tought it wasn't necessary at the moment. I'm agree with you when you said we have a heavy workload, we need to study everyday.
